A meeting was organised by the Office of the Head of Civil Service for Public Relations Officers within Ministries to discuss activities to be organised for the 2024 Civil Service Week Celebrations.
Briefing participants, Mrs Wilhemina Asamoah, the Chairperson for the 2024 Civil Service Week celebrations, who is also the Chief Director at the Ministry of Energy, said the meeting was a friendly call to get the PRO’s support to propagate the Civil Service Week celebration. According to her, the strategy was to get all ministries to participate actively through the support of the Public Relations Officers. She said there was the need to push for ministries to participate in the celebration, through sharing ideas among the various Public Relations Officers on the kind of activities to embark upon and how best to promote it.
She informed the meeting that balloting for the inter-ministerial games had been done. She mentioned that the final football match will come off at 3 pm at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday 3rd May 2024 and the Awards Ceremony at 4 pm at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Mrs Wilhemina Asamoah extended an invitation to all and said due to limited space at the Conference Centre, the invitation will be limited to ministers of state, civil service council members, heads of various co-operate organisations, chief directors, award winners with their guests, donner partners, private sector, and invited media houses.
She said from the 29th of April to 2nd of May, there will be a policy Fair/Exhibition, Food Bazaar, and Tourism Day from 9 am to 4 pm daily, as well as on-the-spot service from The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, National Health Insurance Scheme, Registrar General’s Department, Births and Deaths Registry, Passport Office among others, and the engagement of dialogue on policies, programmes, activities and projects by sector ministries and the private sector as well as health screening for staff.
Some PROs suggested the need to make changes to the Civil Service Week celebration of which a few were mentioned as follows:
• The need to introduce other games in addition to soccer.
• Change the field of play from Accra Sports Stadium to the Ultratech Stadium
• There should also be the involvement of Chief Directors and Ministers, and they must participate actively to attract the interest of staff and the public to these events. These can also help bring in support for the organization of these activities.
• The government should make available funding to promote the celebration.
