Accra, July 4, 2025 — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on an official visit to Ghana, paid a solemn tribute to Ghana’s founding President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra on Thursday.
The Prime Minister was received and warmly welcomed by Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who led him on a guided tour of the historic site. He was accompanied during the visit by Ghana’s Vice President, H.E. Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the first female Vice President of the Republic.4
As part of the visit, Prime Minister Modi laid wreaths at the tombs of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah, in honour of their enduring legacy in Ghana’s independence and Africa’s liberation movement. The symbolic gesture reflected the longstanding friendship and solidarity between India and Ghana.
The Acting Executive Director of the Park, Dr. Collins Nunyoname Rawlings, was also present to receive the delegation. He provided historical context on the Park’s significance and its central role in preserving the memory of Ghana’s struggle for independence.
The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park stands as a powerful symbol of Pan-Africanism and Ghana’s pivotal role in the continent’s liberation history. The site continues to attract global dignitaries and visitors, serving as a beacon of unity, resilience, and visionary leadership.
