Ho, Volta Region – May 23, 2025 – The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has embarked on a regional tour of the Volta Region aimed at strengthening collaboration with local authorities and addressing accessibility challenges in the region’s tourism sector.
The tour began with a courtesy call on the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Ho.
The visit is part of a strategic initiative by the Ministry to engage with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and stakeholders across the region. The goal is to explore opportunities for transforming the Volta Region into a premier tourism destination by improving infrastructure, mobilizing investment, and enhancing the visibility of local attractions.
In her remarks, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to support local assemblies in packaging and marketing the region’s unique cultural and natural assets. “Our aim is to bring technical expertise and investment to complement the work being done at the local level. With proper coordination and infrastructure, Volta can become one of the country’s top tourism hubs,” she stated.
Hon. Gunu acknowledged the region’s tourism potential and outlined key challenges, particularly poor road infrastructure that limits access to remote but attractive destinations. “We are actively working to address these limitations. This visit is timely and affirms our shared vision for the region’s development through tourism,” he said.
As part of the tour, the delegation visited the Praise City Eco Park and Resort, also known as “Point and Kill”, located off the Ho–Kpetoe road. The site, known for its eco-tourism experiences, features a zip line, canopy walkway, boat rides, and wildlife interactions. The visit provided a live demonstration of the kinds of immersive, eco-conscious attractions that the region offers.
Participants at the event called for increased government support and policy implementation to ensure tourism becomes a key economic driver for the Volta Region. Calls were also made for funding to improve roads, create awareness of existing attractions, and ensure tourism strategies align at both regional and national levels.
