The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has inaugurated a five-member committee tasked with planning national events to honour legends in Ghana’s creative and cultural industry. This initiative stems from a directive by the President, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, during the launch of the Black Star Experience, where he called for the recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to the sector.
The newly formed committee comprises experts from various fields within the cultural and creative arts industry. Their mandate is to organize annual events that will celebrate Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of industry legends. The event is expected to bring together creatives, industry stakeholders, and policymakers.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Joseph K. Amoah, who represented the sector minister, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, emphasized the importance of appointing individuals with the right expertise to plan such a landmark event.
“The Minister believes that an event of this significance must be managed by people with the appropriate background, knowledge, and experience. The establishment of this committee demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting and preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage,” Mr. Amoah stated.
“By honouring legends in the creative and cultural industries, the government aims to inspire future generations of artists, musicians, and cultural practitioners,” he added.
Chairperson of the committee, Korkor Amarteifio, who is the Director of the Institute for Music and Development, expressed her appreciation for the appointment and underscored the importance of the initiative.
“This is long overdue. Many creatives have waited too long, and some have even started private efforts to honour their peers. The industry deserves this,” she stressed.
The other members of the committee include Mr. Wakefield Wisdom Ackuaku, Ag. Executive Secretary, National Commission on Culture, Mr. Gideon Aryeequaye, Ag. Executive Secretary, Creative Arts Agency, Mr. Bessa Simons, President, MUSIGA and Mr. Divine Owusu Ansah, Director of Culture and Creative Arts, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts
Also present at the inauguration were Management staff of the Ministry, including Mr. Kofi Benning, Dr. Geoffrey Tamakloe, Dr. Alphonse Kumaza and Ms. Solace Buame.
