Profile: Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie (MP)
Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie is a distinguished, dynamic and affable veteran Ghanaian actress, producer, screen script writer and politician with a wealth of over three decades experience in the creative arts industry. She is currently Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, also serving as a two-term Member of Parliament for the Ketu South constituency in the Volta region.
She has dedicated nearly all her adult life to promoting and projecting Ghanaian and African culture, producing and directing mini television productions including the popular storytelling program “By the Fireside”. As a distinguished consultant, she has provided valuable knowledge and expertise locally and internationally, to individuals, Civil Society Organizations and State Agencies for policy directions and development of the sector.
Education and Career
Dzifa is a graduate of the University of Ghana with a Master of Philosophy in African Studies and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with First Class Honors. She completed her secondary education at the St. Louis Senior High School in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region. Her passion for the Creative Arts and Culture led her to establish and work as the Chief Executive of Values for Life, a non-governmental organization promoting creative arts and culture, traditional heritage, tourism and digital innovations among youth. She was host of TV Africa’s program that projected male role models and managed a family Restaurant business. In 1985, she began her career in the creative arts when she joined Talent Theatre and has featured in various venues, including Blackstar Mambo, Chaka, Zulu, Jojo, and The Third Woman, with a filmography including Ghost Tears, House of Pain, and Heart of Gold.
She has excellent human relations, is a good communicator, and thrives in situations where she can meet people, have informal conversations and offer her assistance to them. As one of Ghana’s most talented performers, Dzifa has received several awards for her work.
Political Career
Hon Abla Dzifa Gomashie has been a prominent figure, articulate, objective, multi-faceted and well-respected individual in Ghanaian politics. She served as the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture from 2013 to 2017 under President John Dramani Mahama. Upon assumption into office in January, 2025, H.E John Dramani Mahama again appointed her Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts. In the 2020 general elections she was elected as the Member of Parliament for Ketu South constituency, becoming the first female to represent the constituency. She was re-elected in December 2024, securing 92.9% of the votes.
Community Engagement and Team Collaboration
In her native Avoeme-Aflao in the Volta Region of Ghana, Hon Abla Dzifa Gomashie is the queen mother in charge of protocol of the Aflao Traditional area, with the stool name Mama Dzramedo. Outside of her political responsibilities, she is an avid community advocate, actively participating in local events to stay connected with the concerns of her constituents.
Having served as a member of the Parliamentary Committees on Poverty Reduction, Trade, Industry, and Tourism, as well as the Public Accounts Committee, her skills in building consensus, resolving conflicts, and fostering positive relationships with stakeholders while fostering a cohesive and productive working environment make her a great negotiator.

With a proven track record in the Tourism and Culture sectors, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie brings extensive experience navigating legislative processes and championing people-driven initiatives. As an affable people manager and well-respected politician by both her party and opposition members, she is passionate about working closely with relevant stakeholders. She intends to leverage on her expertise, human relations, career and dedicated public service to promote the tourism and creative sectors towards improving Ghana’s economic gains and increasing its contribution to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
